Today everybody browses dating sites. In a step routine, when you spend half your day working or traveling home, this is completely understandable.

I am also registered in a dating site. When I feature a profile, what am I doing? I review the photo, interests, hobbies, comments by other users and all the information connected to that person.

It’s the same with job ads. When you spot a certain job appointment, you read it and decide on whether this is your advertisement. How do you imagine your future job? Does it fulfill your requirements? Is this a good move for the future?

Parts of a cover letter:

1. Personal information – this is the first part of the letter. It includes my name, telephone, email, address.

When I gather the courage to write to a person, that I have chosen, I leave him/her my personal data. No matter whether I put down my name in the message he will surely review my profile.

2. A sentence attracting attention – this is the most important part. If you don’t attract the reader’s attention with this sentence, your application goes to the big heap. The big heap with candidates that are turned down (not invited to an interview).

It has happened to me many times to write to a certain woman and to receive no answer. She is not mistaken. I look for the mistake in myself. What would you do if you receive dozens of letters every day and all of them look like written from one and the same person?

Trust me, if I write something original it always works. I receive an answer. 1:0 for me. I have attracted attention.

3. Provoking interest – what makes me a better candidate than the others. My strong features and qualities for the position offered. Without boasting. Only real proposals.

Now my aim is to convince the said lady about the things that make me different from the others, who have written to her. What features I possess that the others don’t. I always try to write things that comply with reality. What will happen if I describe myself as a tall handsome guy with blue eyes and blond hair. On dating she is horrified to see that a brown haired curly guy with a beer belly is standing before her instead of Brad Pitt?

4. You suggest willingness – how can I help the company. Why should the employer want me to work for him.

I have already impressed the woman. I have raised her interest, she has found similar features and qualities in me. Why should she go out with me? Am I like her ex-partners? I compose something impressive, which to provoke her interest in dating.

5. Encouraging response – there’s only one aim. It’s to receive an invitation for an interview and to get the job.

A date! This is the goal. I should clearly show that I am ready for a date in a time and place suitable for her. I should wait for the answer. I have done my job excellently.

And yes, the answer isn’t late. But it’s a matter of another conversation and this here is a blog for cover letters, isn’t it?
