Today I want to show you a YouTube video that irritated me a lot.
In response to the statement that Americans are stupid (if they are stupid, they won’t be able to compose their own cover letters for their job applications) I offer to your attention certain Americans from the past that surely aren’t stupid. I’d like to ask if today they were in your place would they compose their own cover letters and resumes when job seeking?
1. Benjamin Franklin:
“Benjamin Franklin wrote a newspaper…Benjamin Franklin invented bi-focal glasses and a wood stove…Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity. Benjamin Franklin helped America win The Revolutionary War…Benjamin Franklin starting lending libraries in many cities. Benjamin Franklin helped America become a Country.”
2. Thomas Jefferson :
“Thomas Jefferson was named to the legislature in Virginia.Thomas Jefferson believed in individual liberties. He wrote the Declaration of Independence.Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the US.He bought the Louisiana Territory from France.Thomas Jefferson retired to live at Monticello. He built the University of Virginia.”
3. George Washington Carver :
“He became a teacher and a scientist…Carver taught farmers how to grow more crops. He invented new uses for crops…Carver invented many new uses for peanuts and sweet potatoes…New uses of farm crops helped farmers and consumers.”
4. Percy Julian :
“Percy Julian specialized in making drugs and medications from plants. During his lifetime, he earned more than 138 patents for his work… Percy Julian developed steroids and hormones. He also invented a foam fire extinguisher that put out oil and gasoline fires especially on ships. Percy Julian’s invention saved many lives!”
5. Barbara McClitock :
“Barbara McClintock was the first to describe the “crossover” effect in meiosis (cell reproduction), which is the way new strains of corn are developed. Later she began to study the effect of radiation on corn chromosomes and how it affected mutations in resulting generations of corn.”
6. Dian Fossey :
“When she grew up she became a zoologist…Dian Fossey said that putting animals in zoos was like putting them in prison.Fossey wrote a book called “Gorillas in the Mist”. ”
7. Linus C.Pauling :
“Linus Pauling was a chemist…Linus Pauling earned two Nobel Prizes for his work in chemistry and for his work in advocating peace and opposing the Nuclear bomb…Linus Pauling wrote many books and scientific papers.”
8. Ellison Onizuka :
“Ellison was thirteen when Hawaii became the fiftieth state of the United State. As an American Citizen, Ellison dreamed of becoming an astronaut…Ellison Onizuka was a test pilot and a safety engineer in the Air Force… In 1978, Ellison Onizuka was selected to join the Astronaut team. In 1985, Ellison went on his first space flight on the shuttle Discovery. He made 48 orbits of the earth on that flight…”
9. Sally Ride :
“When she was 27 years old, Sally joined NASA to become an astronaut…First American Woman in Space!”
I am sure that in every American there’s something from them that runs in their blood too. Don’t stay in one place, be different! Your cover letter is a little discovery and you’re the scientist that has to make it!
