I haven’t browsed it for quite a while when one day I received a letter reading that I have an answer to one of my posts published there. It concerned the article “Why I don’t like Professional Resume Writers”. The answer came from the professional resume writer Joe Marinaccio.
“I can tell you as a professional resume writer there are a lot of people out there that do a fine job on their own without the help of a writer. There are, however, just as many who are in desperate need of help whether they realize it or not. So, just like home repairs, there are those who can do them on their own with no problem, there are those who think they can do them on their own with no problem but are really awful and end up making things worse, and there are those who may be able to do them on their own but do not have the time or inclination so they hire a professional. The same analogy can be applied to any service from pizza restaurants and barber shops to financial planners and tax preparation.
Also, to address another comment, if a client comes to us with something we can’t do because we don’t have anyone on staff that understands the profession, we will let the client know immediately and not take their money. That’s good business and good customer service.
Finally, how many professional services offer a guarantee? Do lawyers guarantee that you will win your case when you hire them? Do doctors guarantee you will get better after they prescribe you medicine? Do financial advisors guarantee you won’t lose money while investing with them? No, of course not. But one is much better off with them than without them.

This inspired me to write an article especially for the case.
I’ll start with the presumption that this is my personal opinion – not binding personal opinion which is one of the privileges of Internet – you can freely express your opinion.
For me there are three kinds of job seekers:
1. Those writing their resume and cover letter on their own;
2. Those using your service (of a professional resume writer);
3. Those wondering who should write their resume and cover letter
I won’t discuss the first two types, because they’ve already made up their mind. But I am mad at the third type of job seekers – the hesitant ones!
In most of the cases they choose somebody else to write their resume and cover letter, because there are only a few instances of people that have written their resume and cover letter on their own. This is why I launched this blog – I wanted to spread part of my motivation to them!
If a hundred people say that my sister is a whore, it’s difficult to prove that she’s not!
This irritates me even more! Almost all sites of professional resume writers drive in our heads that the job seeker can’t make it on his own without their help as far as the drafting of his resume and cover letter is concerned!
This resembles very much a monopoly of the labor market to me. If there’s a monopoly in the alcohol, cigarettes and hazard markets, why not in job seeking too? After all it’s a matter of quite a lot of money, isn’t it?
End of Part I

thanks for this wonderful article. will wait for the next part.
You are making the assumption that everyone has the capabilities to write a decent resume and cover letter on their own. It is simply not true. The vast majority of our clients are in desperate need of help. If they didn’t need it, they wouldn’t be on my site to begin with. I am sure there’s many more people who will never need my help, therefore, they will never be on my site. And since you mention it, where on our site do we drill into anyone’s head that they need our services or they’ll fail? We simply offer a service and many people choose to buy because they need help.
